Lately there have been a lot of site popping up that have acted as directories for software. I’m accutely aware of these because a lot of times MindTouch Deki is submitted to them and so I learn about them through the grapevine. I thought I’d cover a few that I find specifically helpful(in no particular order):

  • Download.com – One of the original directories that I used back in the day to find software. It has gotten a lot better and its entries and makeing sure it keeps up with the segmentation of software
  • Osalt(Open Source Alternatives) – This is a site that was recently updated and has a decent interface, very responsive community and a good list of open source applications
  • OStatic - This is a very intuitive directory of software applications that gives a good description of the software along with rewarding the users with points when they update. You can create a profile and add software titles that you use. Check out my profile to see the software that I use.
  • FSF – This is a directory that was organized by the Free Software Foundation. A great place to look if you are searching specifically for open source software.
  • Ohloh – A fun project site that has a nice directory of Open Source projects.
  • SourceForge – The mother of all Open Source software directories. You can pretty much find anything here.

If I missed one I would appreciate it if you added it in the comments.
